Polls open for district 43 cote until Saturday

SPRING HILL
POLLS OPEN FOR DISTRICT 43 VOTE UNTIL SATURDAY
Early voting began Monday for the 12, 000 Hernando County voters in state House District 43. The two poll locations at the Supervisor of Elections offices at the courthouse (Room 165) and the Forest Oaks government center are open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Saturday. The candidates are Republican Ron Schultz of Homosassa, former property appraiser of Citrus County; Democrat Sophia Diaz-Fonseca, former Inverness City Council president; nonparty candidate "Taxi" Dave Gregory; and write-in contender David Werder. The special election is to fill the remainder of the two-year term of state Rep. Charlie Dean, who resigned to run for an open state Senate seat.
Membership focus of NAACP meeting
The Hernando County branch of the NAACP will host its general membership meeting at 6 p.m. Monday at the Spring Hill Branch/Harold G. Zopp Memorial Library, 9220 Spring Hill Drive. Anyone interested is welcome. For information, call Wayman at 442-4242.
BROOKSVILLE
Panel to discuss role of diversity
Pasco-Hernando Community College and the Human Rights Coalition of Hernando County will host a panel discussion and community forum on the "Role of Diversity in Education and the Community" from 1 to 4 p.m. today in the council chambers at Brooksville City Hall, 201 Howell Ave. This session completes the forum that had been postponed in May because of a blackout at the PHCC campus.
