Man caught, charged after police chase

BROOKSVILLE
A police chase that began near the Pasco County line before noon on Thursday ended hours later in the arrest of a Ridge Manor man. The driver, John Pryor, 25, of Ridge Manor, was charged with possession of crack cocaine, carrying a concealed firearm and eluding authorities, reports show. Pryor was being held Friday at the Hernando County jail on a $27, 500 bond. At one point, Pryor ditched his vehicle and ran off. He was caught in another traffic stop about an hour later on Cortez Boulevard west of Brooksville.

Well Florida Board seeks volunteer
The Hernando County Commission is accepting applications from those interested in filling an unexpired term through Sept. 30, 2008, on the Well Florida Council Board of Directors. The vacancy is for a consumer representative (anyone who is not a provider of health services), such as elected officials, representatives of consumer organizations or the public. Applicants must be county residents and registered voters. This is a volunteer position. Applications are available in the county administrator's office, Room 460, Hernando County Government Center, 20 N Main St., Brooksville, and must be returned to the office no later than 5 p.m. July 9. Ham radio users plan field day
The Spring Hill Amateur Radio Club will have a demonstration of emergency communications from 2 p.m. today to 2 p.m. Sunday at Delta Woods Park on Deltona Boulevard. This is an annual "field day" for the local ham radio operators to cap off the weeklong Amateur Radio Week. Residents can meet and speak with the ham radio operators.
Make a mean pie? Enter it in contest
Pie makers are being sought to compete in a contest during the Spring Hill 40th Birthday Bash. The contest will be in two categories: fruit pies and other pies. Judging will be Sept. 23 at the Lake House, 1202 Kenlake Ave. The contest is open to all Spring Hill residents. Registration is limited. Deadline is Aug. 15. The Marine Corps League Detachment 708 will host a Fourth of July picnic from noon to 6 p.m. July 1 at the detachment, 8405 Sunshine Grove Road. Tickets are $10.
