Store your et cetera in style with plywood shed
By Don and Dave Runyan
Published June 23, 2007
This do-it-yourself garden shed is an attractive way to add some storage space to the yard, garden or patio this summer. More durable than metal or plastic sheds, the project is perfect for garden tools, outdoor toys, sports equipment or pool supplies. Built from plywood and standard dimensional lumber, the shed can be completed by most do-it-yourselfers in a couple of weekends. The project calls for all straight cuts, and all of the angles are traced from full-size patterns, so there's no guesswork. Construction is straightforward. First, cut everything to size and assemble a simple frame with glue and screws. Next, add the sheathing and roof (the most complicated part of the job, but an easy-to-follow series of diagrams walks you through it one step at a time). Finally, build and hang the doors, add hardware and shingle the roof. The shed can be painted to match the house or finished as the builder prefers. The garden shed measures 4 feet wide by 2 feet deep and stands a little less than 8 feet tall. The Garden Shed plan, No. 930, is $10.95 and includes complete step-by-step instructions with photos, full-size patterns, detailed construction diagrams, a shopping list and cutting schedule, plywood cutting layouts and a toll-free help line for project questions. A package of shed plans, No. C68, is available for $21.95 and includes three other shed projects. A catalog picturing hundreds of do-it-yourself projects is $2. Please include $4 for postage and handling (except catalog-only orders) and allow about two weeks for delivery.
