WEST PALM BEACH - A homeless man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for abducting and sexually assaulting a group of Fourth of July revelers last year. Duane Vanduyl, 40, quietly asked his victims to forgive him as the sentence was announced Friday before Circuit Judge Krista Marx. Police said Vanduyl emerged from bushes in West Palm Beach early on the morning of July 5 with a gun. A 21-year-old man and his 21-year-old girlfriend, both of Jacksonville, and the man's 25-year-old sister, who the couple was visiting, were forced into their van. Vanduyl took their money and identification and made them withdraw $400 from several automated teller machine. He also forced the women to perform oral sex on him and threatened to rape and kill them. He was caught about eight hours later. Vanduyl has a long history of mental illness, including bipolar disorder.
