Seminole rallies for 9-10 softball title

The win moved Seminole to 2-0 in the four-team pool, and regardless of today's results, it will advance to sectionals beginning July 13 at Dunedin's Fisher Field.

GULFPORT - Layne Hatfield tripled home a pair of runs in the final inning as Seminole defeated Pinellas Park National 8-7 to wrap up the 9-10 Little League softball District 5 title Saturday at Gulfport.

The win moved Seminole to 2-0 in the four-team pool, and regardless of today's results, it will advance to sectionals beginning July 13 at Dunedin's Fisher Field.

Megan Withrow pitched a complete game for Seminole, surrendering three hits and striking out 15. Withrow also accounted for two of Seminole's five hits. Mackenzie Jahn and Alyse Fidanza had hits for Seminole while Nikki Cobb picked up an RBI in the third inning.

Coach Rita Newman also noted the strong defensive play of catchers Fidanza and Jordyn Broderick.

9-10 Baseball

AZALEA 14, SOUTHWEST NO. 2 6: Jared Wolfenbarger went 3-for-3 and struck out six to earn the win. Bryce Cooke 4-for-4 and Bronson Lynch (2-for-3) had five RBIs for Azalea.

SEMINOLE NO. 1 7, NORTHEAST NO. 1 1: Jacob McFadden went the distance and struck out eight for Seminole. McFadden also finished 3-for-3 with a double. Jacob Silverstein, Chris Berry and Douglas Borgh had a pair of hits for Seminole.

SEMINOLE NO. 2 7, SOUTHWEST NO. 2 5: Pitchers Chase Michael, Nathen Tomilonus, Dillon Mastromarino and Brandon Farling combined to lead Seminole. Jadon Fitzpatrick, Caleb Nagel and Mastromarino (home run) provided key hits.

NORTHEAST NO. 2 11, SEMINOLE NO. 2 9: Northeast's Greyson Porter had an inside-the-park home run and finished with five RBIs. Will Condon went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a triple while Parker Bryant picked up the win.

10-11 Baseball

NORTHEAST 3, SOUTHWEST 2: Ryan Taylor went 3-for-3, knocked in the tying run and scored the winner on Sam Dolson's RBI. Matson Huff picked up the win, and Jacob Lynn recorded five putouts, including a diving catch at third base.

SEMINOLE 10 BAYPOINT 0: Tyler Koser and Daniel Robinson combined on a one-hitter for Seminole in a game shortened by the mercy rule. Seminole's 11-hit attack was paced by Sparky Pergolizzi's 3-for-3 day.

District 12: 9-10 Baseball

WEST PASCO 16, HOLIDAY 3: Blaize Grabowski (three RBIs), Max Martin (four RBIs) and Mike Dodson each had two hits for West Pasco. Pitchers Joe Aldrich, Ryan Glenn and Grabowski held Holiday to three hits in a game shortened to four innings by the mercy rule.

OLDSMAR 14, CLEARWATER 2: Tyler Gardner struck out seven over four innings, and Oldsmar scored nine in the second inning to open up a comfortable lead. Riley Choate (2-for-2) finished with a double and two runs scored.

EAST LAKE 8, WEST PINELLAS 0: Bobby Alders carried a perfect game into the sixth and combined with Nick DeSantis for a no-hitter. Albers, who finished with 13 strikeouts, was lifted with two outs in the sixth after reaching his pitch limit. Joe Russo, Steven Plaskett (two RBIs) and Albers had two hits for East Lake.

SAFETY HARBOR 10, DUNEDIN 0: Nick Townsend allowed two hits and struck out seven in a game shortened to four innings by the mercy rule. Safety Harbor finished with 10 hits, led by two apiece from Nick Borruso, Bill Atterbury (three RBIs) and Townsend.

TARPON SPRINGS 11, LARGO 10: Tarpon Springs overcame a seven-run third inning deficit to pick up the win. George Koulianos earned the win, and Jake Martinez pitched two innings of shutout ball for the save. Tarpon Springs' Mikel Cummings had a triple, and Julio Moskuera went 2-for-3 with a double.

PALM HARBOR 13, COUNTRYSIDE 2: Palm Harbor jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning and cruised from there. Brian Auerbach struck out four in four innings for the win, and Tyler Simmons went 2-for-2. Ian Lisle, Matthew Caron and Jake Crain had key hits for Palm Harbor.
