Video report
- For their own good
Fifty years ago, they were screwed-up kids sent to the Florida School for Boys to be straightened out. But now they are screwed-up men, scarred by the whippings they endured. Read the story and see a video and portrait gallery.

Yahtzee game ends in fatality
By ANDREW MEACHAM
Published June 25, 2007
TAMPA - A game of Yahtzee on Saturday left one man dead and another charged with murder. Mark Kelvin Allen, 49, was playing the dice game at 7 p.m. with Edith Elliott, 47, at Elliott's residence at 3607 N Avenida Republica de Cuba when an argument erupted, said Tampa police Detective Craig Roberts. The fight spilled into a bedroom, where Elliot had retreated to join boyfriend Rueben Barnett, 49. Allen kicked the door off its hinges and he and Barnett fought, Roberts said. During the scuffle, Allen stabbed Barnett twice in the lower abdomen, Roberts said. Barnett was taken to Tampa General Hospital, where he died. Allen, who was arrested on a second-degree murder charge, was being held without bail at the Orient Road Jail. Andrew Meacham can be reached at ameacham@sptimes.com or 813 661-2431.

When I first heard about this, 2 words came to mind: Pinellas Park. Then I realized that this game involves spelling and, therefore, my first instinct was incorrect.

If he was upset enough to kick the door off of the hinges, then the presumptive statement is, "They were in Fear of Thier Lives". I bet the deceased brandished the knife first! Yahtzee, kicking door off hinges...Love Triangle, bet ya!

I'm guessing that this guy did not fly off the hanger because he lost at a game of yahtzee. To even believe that is ridiculous. I wonder what really happened. Hey, you think you guys could figure that out?

If you already have four of a kind and roll it again you can use it for three of a kind. Many arguments occur over just this rule. But I assure you - its a legal score. Not worth fighting over - but still a legal score. And when done w/ 5s or 6s...

Two men act like animals. One man stabs another. Blame it all on the woman, because we all know that men are never violent unless there'a a woman to blame. Typical.
