Quote of the day
"I've got two firsts here, that's pretty cool. ... At least I didn't kill a Devil Ray out there." -- Dodgers LF Luis Gonzalez on hitting the first ball to land in the cownose rays tank beyond the right-centerfield fence. Gonzalez, a Tampa native, also hit the first homer at Tropicana Field in the Rays' first game ever (1998) as a member of the Tigers.
Did you know?
The Rays retrieved Gonzalez's home run ball from the cownose rays tank and initially wanted to place it in the Ted Williams Museum at the Trop but instead gave the ball to Gonzalez, whose 335th homer as a leftfielder gave him the third most all-time at that position behind Barry Bonds and Ted Williams.
