ST. PETE BEACH - A new arts and crafts market will open July 7 under the covered first-floor breezeway at the city's new Community Center. The Saturday Morning Market, co-sponsored by Suntan Arts, will be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday and will feature locally produced arts and crafts, food and produce, baked goods and plants. Arts and craft vendors will offer foot jewelry, fused glass jewelry, photographs, paintings, custom-designed T-shirts, wooden chairs and furniture and pottery. So far, about 20 vendors have signed up at a cost of $35 per day. Vendors must be approved by the Suntan Arts organization. "The Saturday Morning Market is a great event and a great way to attract people to the community center on weekends, " said Natalie Strong, the city's public information officer. If successful, the event will be open year-round, Strong said. The community center, which will hold its grand opening Friday, is at 7701 Boca Ciega Drive, just north and west of the Corey Causeway bridge. The former city hall complex can also be accessed at the end of 76th Street off Blind Pass Road. The $8.2-million, 11, 000-square-foot community center includes instructional classrooms, six multipurpose rooms available for rental, a heated junior Olympic swimming pool, a play area for children and an open park. Movie nights and a skate park are also planned.
