Teeing off
To kick off the AT&T Classic, a new PGA Tour event hosted by Tiger Woods, former President Bush will hit a ceremonial tee shot at 11:30 a.m. on July 4 at Congressional Country Club near Washington. The 41st president will be joined by a military band and the Marine Corps silent Drill Platoon in celebration of the nation's birthday and the tournament's commitment to honoring and supporting the U.S. Armed Services. The tournament is July 5-8.
Kids Rent 4 Free
Marriott Golf has introduced a program where kids 15 and under can use a free rental set when playing golf with a paying adult. This is an extension of a program where children 15 and under can play for free with a paying adult at Marriott Resort facilities. Now the clubs - Accu-Length Expandable Junior Golf Clubs - will be included. The Vinoy in St. Petersburg is among the Marriott golf properties in Florida. Visit www.marriottgolf.com for information.

The Golf Observer
There is hardly a topic tackled anywhere in the world of golf that the Golf Observer misses. That is because www.golfobserver.com is a Web site designed to pull together anything written about golf that appears on the Web. The brainchild of Sal Johnson, a former ABC-TV golf statistician and self-avowed stats nut, the site has a daily listing of editors' picks of the top current stories, as well as a breakdown by PGA, LPGA, Champions, European and Nationwide tours. There is also a statistics section, a business section and a search engine that helps find specific stories. If that's not enough, the site also has a section on golf courses - broken down in U.S., Caribbean, European, Asian and other regions - as well as stories on designers.

Sorenstam vs Wie??? Wie has bowed out of two tournaments now, under advisement, because she was approaching a score of 88 . This would disqualify her for a year. Who's fooling who? Tell Wie to win on the LPGA tour before seeking any apology!
