Softball road ends for county teams

The Dixie softball tournament came to a disappointing close for Hernando County's Ponytails and Angels this week.
The West Pasco Ponytails claimed the championship and a trip to the state tournament, which starts July 6 in Sneads. West Pasco defeated Brooksville 22-0, Wesley Chapel 15-1, Spring Hill 10-0 and East Pasco 10-1 to claim the title.
East Pasco defeated Spring Hill to reach the championship game.
West Pasco knocked off Brooksville, then Spring Hill to win the Angels division.
Baseball update
- AA: Spring Hill American and Hernando Youth League advance to the state tournament in the AA U8 Machine Pitch State Tournament on Saturday in Lakeland.
- AAA: Spring Hill American advanced to the AAA (U10) State Tournament on July 7 in Sebring.
- Majors (12U): The district tournament is ongoing.
- Majors league: Going into Wednesday's games, South Lake and Hernando were the only undefeated teams left in the 10-team tournament. The tournament at Ridge Manor wraps up Friday with a 6 p.m. championship.
MORE BASEBALL: Spring Hill and San Antonio are playing for the age 13 championship today at 6 p.m. at Oak Griner in Ocala.
The 13- to 14-year-old championship will follow at 9 p.m. and will feature winners from Tuesday's late semifinals - Spring Hill vs. Sumter and Oak Griner vs. Hernando.
