Injury of the day

Washington Nationals and former Devil Rays pitcher Jesus Colome has gone on the disabled list with a "soft-tissue infection of the right buttocks." How one gets a "soft-tissue infection of the right buttocks" is a mystery to me, but for the next few days, I think I'll avoid all major-league clubhouses.

Actually, this is the injury of the day

Oh no. The most-anticipated sporting event of the summer is in jeopardy. The great hot-dog eating champ Takeru Kobayashi was gearing up for his July 4 showdown with new world record-holder Joey Chestnut at the Nathan's Famous contest when he suffered a injury - an arthritic jaw! Get a doctor! Start that Delta Burke surgery. (That's hot-dog eating's version of the Tommy John surgery.)

The NBA announced TV contract extensions through the 2015-16 season with ESPN, ABC and TNT. ABC will continue to air 15 regular-season games plus some playoffs and the NBA Finals. ESPN and ESPN2 will continue to show up to 75 regular-season games plus playoffs, while TNT will show up to 52 games, the All-Star Game and playoffs. The deal is likely an increase from the previous deal that paid the NBA an average of $765-million a year.
