What has been the gas consumption in this country for the years 1973, 1985, 1995 and 2005? A record 9.16-million barrels of gasoline per day, or 384.7-million gallons, were consumed in 2005, according to reports from the Energy Information Administration. Consumption in those other years: 1995: 7, 789, 000 barrels/day 327.1-million gallons/day; 1985: 6, 831, 000 barrels/day (286.9-million gallons/day); 1973: 6, 674, 000 barrels/day (280.3-million gallons/day).
