Fourth of July Events

Want to leave the grill duty to someone else this Fourth of July? A number of local groups are holding Independence Day festivities, complete with all the fixins.
If you're in the mood for a big festival, check out Sparklebration, a two-day event at the Pasco County Fairgrounds on State Road 52 in Dade City. The festivities include kiddie carnival rides (ticket purchase required), an All-American Food Court and Miss Sparklebration pageant, plus the fireworks "extravaganza" at 9:15 p.m. Wednesday. The gates open at 5 p.m. Tuesday with free admission and free parking; the event resumes at 3 p.m. Wednesday with $3 admission (kids 10 and under free) and $5 parking. Call (352) 567-6678.

The McKay Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7987 will serve hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken and assorted side dishes at the post home, 7445 Chester McKay Drive in Veterans Village from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday. Music by Paul E from 3 to 6 p.m. Suggested donation of $3. Call (727) 376-3502.

If you're looking for a more reflective event, the VFW Holiday Post 10167, 4619 Bartelt Road, Holiday will hold services at 11 a.m. Wednesday to remember the personal sacrifices of those in uniform.
