DADE CITY - Clowns, carnival rides and, most important, fireworks will greet Fourth of July revelers at this year's Sparklebration event at the Pasco County Fairgrounds.
A sneak preview with free admission and free parking opens today at 5 p.m. with rides and food. The Miss Sparklebration pageant begins at 6 p.m. in Dan Cannon Auditorium.
But the main event is Wednesday, culminating with a fireworks extravaganza just after dark. Blankets and lawn chairs are welcome, but alcohol coolers, pets and personal fireworks are not.
The event also includes an All-American food court with goodies like corn dogs, barbecue, cotton candy and lemonade. There will be continuous musical entertainment, plus animal shows and rides.
Wander around the fairgrounds and watch for acts like the Living Statue of Liberty, Denny the Clown, Stilt-Walking Uncle Sam and a balloon-twisting clown.
Skydivers from Zephyrhills will drop in with an American flag at 5 p.m.
For the competitive appetites, eating contests will test the limits on hot dogs, watermelons and of course, apple pie.
