Scholarship focus is energy, environment

USF St. Petersburg students interested in energy and the environment can apply for a new scholarship for the 2007-08 academic year.

The Progress Energy Scholars Award will provide $500 per semester to undergraduate students and $1, 000 per semester to graduate students who will assist with the Energy and Environment Lecture Series sponsored by Progress Energy and USF St. Petersburg.

Applicants must submit two letters of support from professors and a personal statement outlining interest in the scholarship and the lecture series. Students from all colleges and majors can apply.

Lecture series speakers will include former Environmental Protection Agency chief Carol Browner, NBC News science correspondent Robert Bazell and ecologist Paul Erlich.
