Shelters needed for emergencies

There are more than 55, 000 residents in Pinellas County living in evacuation zones and public shelter space is limited. Pinellas County's Host Home program encourages businesses and community organizations to help their employees and members find safety should a severe storm strike by providing alternative shelter to those who must leave their homes. CLEARWATER

Get free vision screening Monday

Can you read this? Can your kids? There is a free vision screening from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at the Clearwater Health Center, 310 N Myrtle Ave., Clearwater. Prevent Blindness Florida, a nonprofit organization, will screen children for amblyopia and acuity and adults for acuity, cataracts, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. Participants who fail an eye exam will be referred to an eye care professional for a complete dilated eye test. Financial assistance for free examinations and eye glasses may also be available to those who qualify. Call 813-874-2020, ext. 108.
