Father keys on slain son's good times

It's been a month since Lee Sehorne was found shot to death in his estranged wife's back yard. No one has been arrested in the slaying.

While the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the killing, detectives have not released any information - not even to his family, said Sehorne's father, Thomas.

Thomas Sehorne of Ruskin said he hopes that means they're closing in on the killer.

"They're working it hard, " he said last week.

"They're not letting anything out. They can't afford to."

Thomas Sehorne didn't want to talk about his son's relationship with his wife, Christine, who discovered his body on June 7.

He doesn't want to concentrate on a painful part of his son's life, he said.

But he did talk about the things his son loved, like spending time on the water.

Sehorne, 37 when he died, worked as first mate on a Great Lakes tugboat. He was working on his captain's license, his father said.

"They thought a lot of him, " Thomas Sehorne said. "They had plans for him, you know."

He said the president of the tugboat company flew down to attend Sehorne's funeral two weeks ago.

The service had been delayed, he said, because "the medical examiner kept the body for a long time before he released it."

Thomas Sehorne said it made him proud to see how well his son was liked.

But it hurt, too.

"It makes you feel good and it makes you real mad, " he said.

"What a waste it is. I'm going back and forth between grieving and being completely mad. He did well with his short life. He did well."
