Kayaking class is a journey to confidence

Are you the MacGyver type? Learn kayaking skills and the ancient art of self-rescue from 9 a.m. to noon Sunday at the pool at Southwest Recreation Center, 13120 Vonn Road. Class instructors will help you improve your confidence in rough water conditions by teaching techniques of how to roll. The classes, though, will be in calm waters of the pool. Boating safety for larger watercraft

If your boat is larger than a kayak, the Clearwater Flotilla of the Coast Guard Auxiliary might be the place to go for boating safety. The Flotilla's Americas Boating Course runs from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Clearwater Sailing Center, 1001 Gulf Blvd., Sand Key. The two-lesson program is designed for boaters who don't have time for a comprehensive boating course. Cost is $30 and includes materials. Call 727-469-8895.
