McKitrick principal wins statewide award

McKitrick Elementary School principal Lisa Yost is Florida's National Distinguished Principal for 2007.
The prestigious award recognizes principals who are attuned to the academic and social needs of their students and have established strong ties to their communities. Elementary and middle school principals across the state nominate and choose the winner.
Yost, 47, will be honored in Washington, D.C., this fall. She has worked as a teacher and administrator at several elementary schools during her 26-year career in Hillsborough.
Crews to close lanes for sinkhole repairs
Two inside lanes of westbound E Brorein Street between Jefferson and Morgan streets will be closed as crews repair a sinkhole that developed in the roadway on Thursday.
Authorities with the Tampa Water Department say a nearby water main break is to blame for the hole, approximately 6 to 7 feet deep.
Officials expected to fix the broken water line Friday and patch the hole by Monday.
City Council to begin work on tight budget
A Monday meeting of the Clearwater City Council won't include a chance for public comment, but it will be the first time residents can hear firsthand what their elected officials think about City Manager Bill Horne's proposed $390-million city budget for 2007-08.
The budget plan proposes rolling back the property tax rate 15.5 percent but it also includes what is expected to be unpopular service cuts to libraries, recreation centers and other amenities.
