PALM RIVER - Hillsborough County sheriff's detectives are investigating a shooting that left one man dead and another man critically injured late Friday night.
The shooting occurred just after midnight at 1029 Cordonna St., sheriff's spokesman J.D. Callaway said. The Sheriff's Office had not released the victims' names or identified a suspect Saturday morning. Three men were playing cards outside an apartment complex when a man armed with a pistol approached, Callaway said. The armed man opened fire and fled.
One man died at the scene. Emergency crews took another man to Tampa General Hospital with an abdomen gunshot wound. He was listed in critical condition, Callaway said.

ODESSA - A man stabbed his wife in the chest and tried to shoot her in the face, but the pistol misfired, according to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office. The man then stabbed himself.
It happened around noon Saturday at 13714 Tramore Drive in Odessa. Both were flown to a hospital with injuries described as not life-threatening. Investigators do not yet know what caused the dispute because both the man and woman are Hispanic and an interpreter was not on the scene. The Sheriff's Office has not released their names.
