Celebration in memory of Beaux arts' Reese

Published July 18, 2007

An informal celebration to commemorate the life of Tom Reese, founder of Beaux Arts, will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday on the former grounds of the original coffeehouse and gallery, 7711 60th St. N. Join the celebration even if you didn't make it to Beaux Arts before its founder and director passed away last year. Old friends say he'd have wanted new voices, new music, new poetry and new friends to be embraced in his honor, on the grounds where his legacy began. If you come, please bring your own chairs or blankets for seating, and bring something cold nonalcoholic to drink. And don't forget the mosquito repellent. Thursday marks what would've been Reese's 90th birthday.

The early shopper gets the bargains

Roll out of bed Thursday and head downtown for the 34th annual Sunrise Sale and Pajama Party. At 6:43 a.m., more than 40 shops will offer a morning of shopping and discounts. Participating businesses are as far north as 18th Avenue N, south to Central Avenue, east to Beach Drive and west to 11th Street. For more information, visit www.stpetedowntown
