Nine from area named national merit scholars

Nine students from south Pinellas County schools have been named Merit Scholars by the National Merit Scholarship Corp. The students are part of more than 2,300 high school graduates awarded college-sponsored scholarships ranging from $500 to $2,000 a year for up to four years. Local recipients are: Jenny R. Lin of Clearwater, 2007 graduate of the International Baccalaureate program at St. Petersburg High, National Merit University of Chicago Scholarship. Jesse T. Andrews of Largo, 2007 graduate of Seminole High, National Merit University of Florida Scholarship. William J. Degan of Largo, 2007 graduate of the Center for Advanced Technologies at Lakewood High, National Merit University of Florida Scholarship. Zachary B. Bowers of St. Petersburg, 2007 graduate of North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, National Merit Vanderbilt University Scholarship. Nora G. Brody of St. Petersburg, 2007 graduate of Canterbury School of Florida, National Merit University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Scholarship. Erika H. Fant of St. Petersburg, 2007 graduate of Lakewood's Center for Advanced Technologies, National Merit University of Florida Scholarship. Abbye A. Floystad of St. Petersburg, 2007 graduate of Lakewood High's Center for Advanced Technologies, National Merit University of Florida Scholarship. Robert W. Kalteux of Seminole, 2007 Seminole High graduate, National Merit University of Florida Scholarship. William A. Light of Seminole, 2007 graduate of Seminole High, National Merit University of Florida Scholarship.
