Today's Letters: Liven up the arts

Liven up the arts Tampa's art community will never be what it can and should be as long as there are entities such as Channel 8 who love to pooh-pooh the funding of public art with tax dollars. I went to art school at USF, and my professors there likened the area to a smaller version of New York City with all the museums and galleries that are here. It's true there's a lot here, but just look at the trouble the city of Tampa is having just getting a new Museum of Art constructed. How many years have they been going round and round about that? Tampa could be so much more, if only the city's elected officials would allow it to be. It's been status quo way too long. I loved your article. You certainly got Nino and Amy down to a "t"! It was perfect. You really captured a great part of their story, a part of their history. Monica Martino, St. Petersburg

The reason art is not top priority with local gov't is because the citizens here care more about property taxes, property insurance, & major league sports. Have you visited a museum lately? They are always pretty empty.
Sometimes the truth hurts.

I am tired of the clap trap spewed by "art" supporters who really just want to shove their interests or pretensions on the rest of us. Pursue your interests with your own money and time, not ours
