How did you get started in investing? The very first time was after one of our children received some money in a settlement. The interest rate was 15 or 20 percent back then - in the 1970s - and we bought bonds. What is your best investment? Exxon. What is your worst investment? Nursing homes. What have you learned about investing that you think others should know? When you're attracted to something, check it out and research it and do a daily check before you invest in it. How would you describe your approach to investing? At my age, they tell me I shouldn't take any risks and I say, if you're going to take a risk, take it now. So I'm moderate. What do you find the most difficult about investing? I don't make it my life's work, so I don't find it a chore. I don't use brokers. How are you invested? I'd say maybe 20 percent is stocks. The other in various mutual funds and IRAs. What change have you made in your investments in the past year? Nothing. But I'm standing right on the edge of kicking Ford to the curb. For sentimental reasons, it's hard. That was the company my husband worked for. Do you think it's a good time to invest? You cannot catch a train that's rolling. This is a rolling market. I'd be very careful. I wouldn't get out of anything, but I don't think I'd get into anything. What is your goal for your investments? Only thing I want to do is make sure I have enough money to do the things I want to do and remain independent of my children. What is your biggest money concern? The price of insurance in the state of Florida. And the property tax yo-yo. Where do you get your investment tips? I just once in a while will pick up a Money magazine. Basically, I read money columns in the two newspapers. I go to Forbes.com. That's the one I use primarily.
