U.S. 301 crash leaves pair with serious injuries

THONOTOSASSA - Two people were flown to Tampa General Hospital with what were described as serious injuries after a car and a truck collided on U.S. 301 Tuesday night.

The accident happened just after 8:15 p.m. Tuesday at U.S. 301 and Dead River Road. The Florida Highway Patrol reported a vehicle traveling northbound ran onto the shoulder, then overcorrected, crossing southbound lanes and hitting another vehicle head-on.

U.S. 301 was blocked to traffic in both directions for several hours. No other details about the crash or victims were immediately available late Tuesday.
