Fire district officials cancel funding hearing
Published July 26, 2007
BROOKSVILLE - Spring Hill Fire Rescue District attorneys canceled a hearing scheduled Thursday morning, aimed at freeing up district money. Fire District lawyer Ron Freeman said Wednesday evening that county officials have agreed to keep operations running as usual, which includes making sure fire department bills are paid and payroll is not interrupted again. In the meantime, county and fire officials will try to sort out technical questions over the district's legal status. Last week, fire district attorneys filed an injunction request after learning that the district had been dissolved, according to a list kept by the state Department of Community Affairs. That led Clerk of the Circuit Court Karen Nicolai, whose office oversees the district's money, to put a hold on its assets.
