DADE CITY - City commissioners narrowed 16 city manager applicants to four at Tuesday night's commission meeting. Individual commissioners selected their top choices, and Mayor Hutch Brock compiled those numbers to determine the top four applicants. They are: - James Gallagher of Winter Haven, most recently the town manager of Dundee in Polk County.
- Lester Baird, Sr. of LaBelle, county administrator of Hendry County.
- Scott Heinig of North Port, the planning manager at Sarasota County Planning & Development Services.
- James Gleason of Canton, Ga., the city manager of Woodstock, Ga.
Commissioners will interview the candidates on Aug. 9 from 2 to 6 p.m. "It will be a long day but we can get it done," said Brock. In other news Commissioners set the preliminary maximum millage rate at 7.10, down from 7.84 last year. A mill produces $1 in tax for every $1,000 in taxable property value. Budget hearings begin in September. Helen Anne Travis can be reached at 352 521-6518 or htravis@sptimes.com
