Perfection comes easily to Mahr

Ring up one more perfect game for possibly the best bowler in the history of this county. Jason Mahr, tossed another sanctioned 300 during the Summer Metro League at Mariner Lanes last week. He finished with a 741 series for the night, third best for the week.

Mahr's exploits continue to spread across the area, with many touting his talents. Fellow bowler and Mariner Lanes employee John Leverock raved about what he saw Mahr do only days before.

"Using two different balls on two different lanes, he threw simultaneous 300s during practice," Leverock said. "I've been around this sport for 50 years, and I've never once seen that."

The owner of the KMA Pro Shop at Mariner Lanes, Mahr's perfect game was the 35th of his already storied career - and that might be just the beginning after his success this season on the lanes. He has had eight this season with two weeks still left in the summer before the 2007-08 season gets underway.

Since becoming the sole owner of the pro shop, the KMA name has become fitting - the first two letters standing for "King Mahr."

GOLF N' BOWL: The Golf N' Bowl League has become a summer staple at Mariner Lanes. And the scores are pretty remarkable considering the participants have just golfed nine holes.

This past week was a prime example. Steve Wilson and Vincent Susra had the top two series in the county, both in that league.

Wilson's 756 and Susra's 745 were only the beginning. Both tossed 11 strikes in their best games with Susra barely topping Wilson, 289-279. Both made the county top five for high male scratch games.

The men weren't the only one having success in the Golf N' Bowl League. Judy Leverock had the second-highest female scratch series, competing under the same conditions. Her 568 was second only to Rachel Vicari's 605. Vicari led the county in female scratch series for the second consecutive week.
