NASA DISCOVERS BAD VALVE BEHIND SHUTTLE TOILET
NASA has determined the source of the cabin leak aboard space shuttle Endeavour. The culprit seemed to be one of two pressure release valves in the crew cabin behind the toilet but separate from the bathroom plumbing. NASA decided late Wednesday afternoon to replace the bad valve with one from space shuttle Atlantis. The newly installed component will be tested today. The shuttle is scheduled to lift off Tuesday for the international space station.
Detectives say burglar's trail was hot
Michael Jennings learned this lesson the hard way: Don't return to the scene of a burglary to pick up stolen goods that you couldn't carry the first time. After robbing a home in Seminole, Jennings, 34, apparently took more firearms and guns than he could handle, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office. So he hid the goods in woods in the 9100 block of 82nd Avenue N, and made three trips back to the site to get the rest. Not surprisingly, someone saw him and decided he looked suspicious. Sheriff's detectives arrested Jennings on Tuesday afternoon on a charge of armed burglary.
CNN still advertises Sept. 17 debate
Though the prevailing winds are seeming to lean toward a later date for the CNN-YouTube presidential debate scheduled in St. Petersburg Sept. 17, there's at least some suggestion that the date may not switch at all. When asked if there was an update Wednesday, an official with CNN said there was none and then added: "It's probably worth noting to you that the Sept. 17 promos are still running on our air. So if you don't believe me that we haven't made a decision to move it yet, believe that."
Corrections
- Jean Fontalvo was charged in November with falsifying a death certificate for a sister who never existed. In a prior case, she was accused of falsifying a death certificate for her still-living husband. A story Wednesday gave incorrect information.
- Iraq is eight hours ahead of Florida. A story in Sunday's Local and State section misstated the difference.
