Dee Brown's winning RBI single in the bottom of the 11th against New Hampshire on Wednesday night was the latest sign he has broken free of the funk that has plagued him since his call up to Double A.
Brown, who started the season at high-Class A Potomac, is 13-for-34 (.382) in his past 10 games, lifting his average on the season to .236. During that stretch, he hit two of his three home runs.
Brown, who has been batting eighth and playing leftfield, has 11 RBIs, 13 runs scored and a stolen base on the season.
Here's a look at how some of the county's other prospects have fared:
Patrick Ryan, RP
Brevard County Manatees (High-Class A/Milwaukee Brewers)
The former Central standout continues to have a strong season. He pitched two scoreless innings in his most recent appearance, during a 10-2 loss to Port St. Lucie July 25. In 21 games since being called up from low-Class A West Virginia, Ryan is 2-2 with a 2.10 ERA, 27 strikeouts and eight walks in 341/3 innings pitched. Batters are hitting just .208 against him.
Bernice Mosby, F
Washington Mystics (WNBA)
The former star at Hernando High and Baylor University did not play in a 66-57 loss to Indiana on July 31. She had three points and one rebound in six minutes of action in a 76-64 loss to Detroit on July 28. In a win over Seattle on July 24, she scored six points in nine minutes. For the season, Mosby is averaging 2.6 points and 3.0 rebounds per game.
Bronson Arroyo, SP
Cincinnati Reds (Major League Baseball)
The former Hernando star allowed seven runs in a 7-2 loss to Washington on Wednesday, marking the first time in seven starts he had allowed more than four runs. During that span, Arroyo dropped his ERA half a run (from 5.24 on June 17 to 4.72 today) and picked up two of his four wins. In 23 games, he is 4-12 with 99 strikeouts and 48 walks in 141.0 innings pitched.
Bert Snow, SP
Shreveport Sports (American Association/Independent)
The former Hernando star is 4-5 with a 3.92 ERA with 67 strikeouts and 42 walks in 101.0 innings pitched. Snow had one of his best outings of the season July 29, pitching a complete game and striking out nine in a 3-2 win over Fort Worth.
