Run long or stay close during this tournament Thunder Marine will host a family fishing tournament targeting both inshore and offshore species on Saturday. Fishing for amberjack, grouper, sheepshead, mangrove snapper, Spanish mackerel and sea trout starts at 6 a.m. with the weigh-in beginning at 4 p.m. at 8701 Bay Pines Blvd. in St. Petersburg. The cost is $55 per boat for Thunder Marine customers and $75 per boat for all others. The first-place prize in each species is $300, with additional divisions, including youth 10 and under and ugliest fish. Tune in for fish talk Kayak guide and Times Captains Corner contributor Neil Taylor will be a guest Saturday on the Capt. Mel Show from 6 to 9 a.m. on 970-AM. He will share tips on catching some of the favorite species that anglers target during the summertime. He'll also go over catch-and-release fish handling techniques and discuss the perils of fishing for tarpon and sharks from a kayak.
