SEMINOLE

Bicyclist hurt seriously when hit by SUV

An 83-year-old bicyclist was struck by an SUV about 3:30 p.m. Sunday near Seminole Boulevard and 86th Avenue, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said. Witnesses said the bicyclist, Stewart Martin of Seminole, rode west into the path of an SUV driven by Robert Woodling of Seminole as he was heading north through a green light. Martin has life-threatening injuries and was transported to Bayfront Medical Center. The Sheriff's Office said no charges are contemplated at this time.

Cocoa man scales White House fence

The Secret Service apprehended a Florida man Sunday after he climbed over the White House fence. Justin Manuel Arrieta, 22, of Cocoa, entered the north side of the White House grounds about 10:30 a.m. and was immediately apprehended by officers in the Secret Service Uniformed Division, according to Secret Service spokeswoman Kim Bruce. She said Arrieta was charged with unlawful entry and was taken away by Washington police for processing. President Bush was at the presidential retreat in Camp David, Md., when the incident occurred.

CLEARWATER

Hearing Tuesday on parks, land

A hot topic returns to the County Courthouse on Tuesday. The Pinellas County Commission will hold a public hearing on a proposed ordinance to establish restrictions on the sale or transfer of county-owned parks and environmental lands at 9:30 a.m. in the fifth-floor commission assembly room, at the courthouse, 315 Court St. Officials say the ordinance will offer new protections for parks and pristine land, but skeptics say it's full of loopholes.
