For $10, the lighter side of news folks

Tired of bad news and downer newscasts? For $10, TV and radio personalities will tell you stuff that makes you laugh. It's a charity comedy show, 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Tampa Improv, 1600 E Eighth Ave., Ybor City. Titled The Decidedly White-Collar (Hopefully) Comedy One-Night Tour, the event gives a stage to Brendan McLaughlin (WFTS-Ch. 28), Jen Holloway (Bay News 9), Jack Harris and Tedd Webb (WFLA-AM 970), among others. Local charities benefit. For more information, call (813) 864-4000 or visit www.improvtampa.com.

TAMPA

Bob Martinez for Giuliani

Former Gov. Bob Martinez is throwing his presidential endorsement to Rudy Giuliani. The announcement is expected today, just in time for Mitt Romney's town hall-style campaign stop at Tampa's La Teresita restaurant tonight. The Republican former Tampa mayor is not just a big name in Florida, but he's also a top fundraiser, having raised at least $200,000 for Bush-Cheney in 2004.

CLEARWATER

Rockers bring cool to library scene

Teens take note: Detroit indie rock band the High Strung will perform rousing jams and talk about what it's like to write songs, perform and tour at 7 p.m. today at the Clearwater Main Library, 100 N Osceola Ave. Yes, at the library. It's part of an effort to convince young patrons that the library can be, well, cool. The group's videos have been seen on MTV, and Rolling Stone hailed the High Strung as one of the best rock 'n' roll bands in America. Open to kids age 12 to 20. Free. Call (727) 562-4970, ext. 5244.
