Fetish Con 2007
Seminars and appearances get going Friday through Sunday at the Hyatt Regency Tampa, 211 N Tampa St. Limited access day passes are available through Sunday for $25. www.fetishcon.com.
* * *
Break out the bullwhips. Fetish Con is back in town.
Now in its fourth year in Tampa - and seventh overall - the highly successful sexual fetish expo returns to the Hyatt Regency Tampa this weekend, meaning you'll have a good chance of seeing a man walking through downtown on a leash.
The annual convention draws attendees from around the country. Outsiders are welcome. Here's a brief, safe-for-work preview of who and what you can expect to see.
Three fascinating people:
1. Maria "The SnakeBabe" Gara, a Las Vegas model, magician, fire eater and animal activist. She has rescued and adopted dozens of exotic animals, and has used some of them in her stage show, including a common boa named Fellatio.
2. RubberDoll, a Fort Lauderdale fetish model and performer whose stage shows feature "strict rubber nuns and demented latex nurses." She is not to be confused with RubberRuss, her boyfriend and photographer; or RubberBoy, a self-described "bondage toy" from Seattle.
3. Smoking MaryJane, a Hollywood, Calif., pinup model who describes herself as "one of the most well known activists for medical marijuana rights." On her Web site, she describes pot thusly: "It's like a warm summer day in the middle of the ocean, and I'm smoking it."
Three seminars you won't want to miss:
1. "Lovers Double Suspension," in which bondage artist Lew Rubens will suspend a pair of models "in sexually suggestive positions," taking ideas and suggestions from "all the perverted minds in attendance." 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
2. "Pain for Pleasure, Not to Injure," presented by embersMaster ("a loving sadist") and dizzy dew ("a true pain slut"), who promise to explain "where you can strike your partner and where you cannot." 11:30 a.m. Sunday. (Skip church!)
3. "Pony Play Fun & Games," presented by PonyOATS, which is the name of a Florida ponyplay group. "Ponyplay" is a horse-related role-playing fetish rooted in man's fascination with equines. 4 p.m. Friday.
Three comments from MySpace page:
1. "Went to my first time to ur parties and I was sold by the end of the night! I was spanked, tied up and bitten, along with a couple of other things. Thank you, now my eyes have been opened and I see the light to a whole new life style :)" -- sugar
2. "Thanks for adding this living doormat. I know my place, I am a worthless cuckold foot slave for couples to use." - footcuckold
3. "We are looking for diaper lovers that will be in Tampa next week for FetishCon interested in appearing on The Bubba the Love Sponge Show. ... Preferably a mother & baby boy." - kurt

How many of those objecting to the con would consider the severed sexual organs of a plant to be a romantic, instead of a perverted, gift?

People, relax, we (americans) need to remember that this nation was founded on freedom, so if its not your thing thats ok, (I'm not into that sort of thing either) but live and let live as long as it doesn't involve kids or animals, get a life.

What the heck is a "girly magazine" anyway? I think the last time I heard that term was from the Church Lady or maybe in "Porky's" - which demonstrates the antiquated, morally superior=than-thou attitude of some posters. Way to go Times for thestory!

I, for one, have no issues with my sexuality, and neither does my long-term boyfriend. We plan on going tomorrow, even if we aren't into every type of bondage and fetish scenario on display. What a bunch of Puritans some of you are. Get over it!

How exactly does this damage children or relationships? How weak are your faith based beliefs to have them turned by a few words of print? Oh man, now I have to tell my wife I like evil (tm) because I saw words. Words on rape and murder are safe.

Go ahead Mike, open-minded individuals don't patronize narrow-minded operations anyhow. We should applaud SPT for keeping it real.

All children should be sheltered from PG rated descriptions of real life events. Otherwise, who knows what might happen! Enlightenment and open-mindedness is sure to follow. Where will be then? ::gasp::

MIKE let me know how much you put in for advertising. I would gladly give that money to the SPT just so you have no adverse affect to them putting out stories like this.

Morality is an abstract enforced as law by those in majority... amazing how those two often coincide. Children will always learn with or without parental consent. Everything has a right to be reported on, if you agree with it or not... so jog off!

Wow. Why the outrage? You narrow-minded individuals... it's perfectly fine to have this article printed. It's an odd event taking place in Tampa. Whoopdedoo. Get over yourselves. BTW... these events happen all over the country, not just Florida. :)

Caroline - but anything does go where sex is concerned. As long as it's safe, sane and consensual. This is 2007, not the dark ages, you should visit it and have some fun.

Do you know how many marriages and relationships that have been enhanced by such activities? Relationships fail for all reasons, you sound bitter and obviously need a good spankin'! Broaden your minds, not your hatred!

It's interesting and sad at how judgmental so many people are regarding this article. To Caroline - this lifestyle doesn't destroy marriages; that's the quality of the person betraying the marriage.

I'm on the fence with this one. Of course a paper can run most articles it chooses, and there's no problem with an article telling people that this is coming, but this was a bit much. Descriptions of the seminars? Kids read this, too!
