SAN ANTONIO
Three of five teens who escaped from the San Antonio Boys Village on Aug. 4 were apprehended Thursday. They were taken to the Juvenile Detention Center and charged with escape from a state contracted correctional facility, a felony, though less severe in this case because the village is unsecured, said Doug Tobin, Pasco Sheriff's Office spokesman. One teen was caught the day of the escape. Authorities previously said another boy was arrested Monday, but on Friday said one escapee is still at large. The boys, all ages 13 to 15 - escaped through an emergency exit about 8:30 p.m.

Tutoring program won't be offered
Pasco school officials cheered the springtime approval of Sand Pine Elementary School to offer tutoring to children in several low-performing schools. They figured Sand Pine, at the time Pasco's only school to make "adequate yearly progress" under federal guidelines, could provide the services more efficiently and effectively than private companies. They didn't count on the newly hired coordinator quitting before launching the program. As a result, "the district has decided not to run the program," Title I director Elena Garcia said Friday. Twenty-eight other providers remain. The 14 elementary schools that must offer tutoring will have open houses between Aug. 30 and Sept. 18. For information, call (813) 794-2708.

Husband could face life sentence
Prosecutors have escalated the criminal charge against a man accused of running over his wife with an SUV in June. Jamey Vernon Warsecke, 34, was charged with attempted first-degree murder by the Pinellas-Pasco State Attorney's Office in July, according to court records. He had originally been arrested on a charge of domestic aggravated battery with a deadly weapon on June 27. Authorities say Warsecke tried to leave the couple's Alken Circle home on June 26 with their baby girl. Wife Lisa Walters sat in front of the Chevy Blazer, but authorities say that didn't stop Warsecke from putting his foot on the gas and driving over her, leaving her greasy and bruised. Warsecke could face life in prison if convicted of this latest charge.
