The Pinellas County School Board has scheduled a special workshop from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday in the conference hall of the administration building, 301 Fourth St. SW, Largo. Board members are scheduled to discuss the possible impact of magnet programs, fundamental schools, other special programs and high schools on the proposed draft student assignment plan for the 2008-09 school year. Proposals have included the possibility of closing some schools, assigning students to schools closer to their homes, increasing the number of fundamental schools and realigning schools to increase attendance areas for elementary, middle and high schools. To view the workshop live online, go to www.wpds.tv and click on Watch WPDS Online. The workshop will be rebroadcast in its entirety on Channel 14 at 6 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday.

Help find purse, wallet thieves

Police are seeking help finding two women who last week stole purses and wallets from school and nursing home employees. Between 1:15 and 3 p.m. Wednesday, the women went to Belcher and Largo Central Elementary schools and Palm Garden Nursing Home, said Detective Joe Coyle. At each, one woman distracted workers by asking for directions. The second said she was going to the bathroom, but instead grabbed purses and wallets from offices. Coyle said the women have used credit cards they stole to buy gift cards and merchandise. Both are black, in their mid to late 20s, police said. One is about 5 feet 6 and weighs 150 pounds with long braided hair, sometimes worn on top of her head. The second is about 5 feet 4 and weighs 200 pounds with short, curly, possibly dark red hair. Police ask anyone with information to call 587-6730.
