COUNTYWIDE The Clearwater/Upper Pinellas County branch of the NAACP will hold its 33rd annual Freedom Fund banquet from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 1199 Highland Ave. at Rosery Road in Largo. The Rev. Walter Campbell of Bayview Baptist Church in Clearwater will be the keynote speaker. Tickets are $50 for adults, $35 for children younger than 12. Tickets will be available at the door. CLEARWATER Interim assistant manager picked Clearwater City Manager Bill Horne has tapped human resources director Joe Roseto to serve as interim assistant city manager, replacing Garry Brumback, who leaves Aug. 23. Roseto, who joined the city more than seven years ago as a manager in human resources, has been the director for the past five years. Horne said he was picked because of his working knowledge of city business and strong relationships with city staffers. Roseto, who probably will apply for the job permanently, said he wanted to "keep the momentum going." The deadline to apply for the job is Sept. 28. It pays between $115,000 and $125,000. Clearwater has two assistant city managers. They are responsible for helping Horne oversee the day-to-day operations of the city. Gus Bilirakis, R-Palm Harbor, announced Tuesday he will shave his head to honor the fundraising efforts of the American Cancer Society's Southeast Hillsborough Unit on Friday night at the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa. Several members of Bilirakis' staff from Washington, D.C., and Florida will also plan to shave their heads, according to his office. OZONA Want to help restore preserve?
