One dies in traffic crash at Curlew, Belcher

A crash at Curlew and Belcher roads left one person dead Friday afternoon, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office. The wreck took place at 1:31 p.m., and authorities closed Curlew from Belcher to County Road 1. As of late Friday, the Sheriff's Office had not released the names of those involved or further information. An investigation was continuing.

Firehouse Museum offers group tours

The Kids Firehouse Museum is offering tours Monday through Thursday for groups of 10 or more children. The museum teaches fire safety and has 12 antique fire trucks, memorabilia, a movie theater, a playground and picnic area. Children receive fire safety literature to take home. Admission is free but donations are accepted. The museum is south of Ulmerton Road at 95th Street. To book a tour, call (727) 585-1300.

DUNEDIN

Fire station named for firefighter

The city's main fire station has a new name: the Rick Seissian Fire Station No. 60. Seissian died June 26 of brain cancer at age 56. He served as a firefighter and paramedic in Dunedin for 33 years. He was described by city leaders as a valued mentor and role model and was recognized for his long service. Dunedin city commissioners voted unanimously Thursday to rename the station in his honor. The Fire Department plans a dedication ceremony, but a date has not been scheduled.

Hurricane program scheduled Monday

Learn about some hurricane myths and how to stay safe if a storm hits here with Pinellas County public information officer Tom Iovino. The free public program is 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Hale Activity Center, 330 Douglas Ave. Call (727) 298-3299.

Protective Services official to speak

Treasure Montana of the Pinellas County Sheriff's Child Protective Services Unit will be the guest speaker at the 7:30 a.m. Tuesday meeting of the Countryside Kiwanis Club. Montana and her staff investigate child neglect and abuse. The program will be at Eve's Family Restaurant in Woodlands Square. Visitors are welcome. Call (727) 365-0200.
