The Browns
Eugene and Sadie Brown of Spring Hill recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. They were wed July 6, 1947, in Albany, N.Y.
Mr. Brown's career was in electronics, working for Western Electric School of Audio Science. He was also vice president of the Allied International Union on Long Island. Mrs. Brown was an occupational therapist at Bellevue Hospital in New York. The couple both have college degrees, his from Cornell University and hers from New York University.
The Browns have four children: nephews David Brown of New York and Leon Brown, deceased, whom they raised, as well as adopted children Bishop James Dixon and Lena Dixon of Spring Hill. They also have 16 adopted grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The couple are members of the African-American Club of Hernando County, New Hope Missionary Baptist Church and its Missionary Society and the Hernando County Branch of the NAACP. Mr. Brown is also a past grand master Mason in the state of New York.
The couple moved to Spring Hill in December 1991 from Westwood, N.J. They enjoy golfing, singing, reading, public speaking and teaching the Bible.
They celebrated their anniversary in July with special dinners at Red Lobster and the Chesapeake Bay Crab House, as well as an anniversary dinner on Thursday with friends and family.
The Sutphins
Harold and Phyllis Sutphin of Spring Hill recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. They were married Aug. 9, 1947.
The couple celebrated with family and friends in Michigan.
