Minor-leaguers show promising talent

Both of Hernando County's minor-league prospects have spent the second half of their summer sizzling.
Former Hernando star Dee Brown has cooled down, but is still hitting .296 with four RBIs and four runs scored in his last 10 games at Double-A Harrisburg.
Former Central star Patrick Ryan, meanwhile, hasn't allowed an earned run nearly a month, pitching 112/3 consecutive scoreless innings for high-Class A Brevard County. The 24-year-old reliever has an 0.71 ERA in his last 10 appearances.
In 29 games at Brevard County, a member of the Brewers farm system, Ryan is 2-2 with a 1.64 ERA. Opponents are hitting just .190 against him.
Brown, meanwhile, has raised his average to .253 with 15 RBIs and 19 runs scored in 55 games at Harrisburg, part of the Nationals' system. The leftfielder is hitting .358 versus left-handed pitchers, but just .204 against righties Brown bats right.
Here's a look at how Hernando County's other professional athletes have fared:
Bernice Mosby
PF, Washington Mystics (WNBA)
Mosby, 23, missed the last two games of the Mystics' season with a knee injury, but was an important role player in the team's late-season playoff push. The former Hernando star finished the year averaging 3.0 points and 2.79 rebounds. Her .484 field-goal percentage was second-best on the Mystics, who ultimately finished 16-18 and fell short of the postseason.
Bert Snow
SP, Shreveport Sports (American Association/Independent)
Snow pitched well, but picked up a no decision in the Sports' 3-2 win over El Paso on Monday night. Snow, 30, allowed one earned run and five hits while striking out six and walking none. He is 4-8 this season with a 3.79 ERA in 19 appearances. He leads the Sports with 126.0 innings pitched. Opponents are hitting .243 against him.
