Two transfer stations limit accepted trash

COUNTYWIDE
Effective Sept. 4, construction, demolition and land clearing debris, as well as furniture, will no longer be accepted at the East Hernando Transfer Station at 33070 Cortez Blvd., Ridge Manor, or at the West Hernando Transfer Station, 2525 Osowaw Blvd., Spring Hill. Materials of these types will be accepted at only the Hernando County Northwest Waste Management Facility, 14450 Landfill Road, Brooksville, where the appropriate disposal fees will be charged. BROOKSVILLE
Housing Authority meets Thursday
Brooksville Housing Authority will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Recreation Hall at 800 Continental Drive. For information, call 796-6547.
Food distribution Saturday at church
Compassion Food Outreach will distribute food at 8 a.m. Saturday at Grace World Outreach Church, 20366 Cortez Blvd. The distribution is for registered clients with ID cards. The distribution is cosponsored by the church and Mid-Florida Community Services. To register or for information, call 796-1425.
Extension service offers design class
"Florida-Friendly Landscape Design" will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Hernando County Cooperative Extension Service, 19490 Oliver St. This is a free class provided by Florida Yards and Neighborhoods program coordinator John Korycki, who will discuss how to apply Florida-friendly principles to construct the best garden possible. Registration is required and will be accepted on a first-come basis. Call 754-4433.

Opening ceremony set for academy
The Golden Branch Academy will have a ribbon-cutting ceremony from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday. There will be refreshments, raffles and tours of the facility. Donations will be collected for the technology room and scholarship fund. GBA is a nonprofit private school for children with learning disabilities in fourth through 12th grades.
