Pine Island drainage is topic of talk

WEEKI WACHEE
Hernando County Public Works Department representatives and County Commissioner Diane Rowden will meet at 6 p.m. today with residents of Pine Island to discuss drainage issues within the community. The meeting will be at the Weeki Wachee Area Club, 7442 Shoal Line Blvd. State Sen. Mike Fasano and Rep. Robert Schenck will also be represented at the meeting.

Find yourself at 'Lost in the '50s'
Tickets are available for the Hernando Beach Yacht Club's "Lost in the '50s Tonight" dinner-dance Sept. 8 at the club, 4163 Shoal Line Blvd. Hors d'oeuvres will be served at 5 p.m., dinner at 6:30 p.m., and dancing from 6:30 to 10 p.m. The dinner will include prime rib, salad and baked potato, with banana splits for dessert. Music will be provided by Larry Greer. Tickets, which are $18, are limited and must be purchased by Sept. 5. They are available at the yacht club between 6 and 8 p.m. on Wednesdays, or by calling Belle McGrory at 666-1098.
Dinner and jazz by the seashore
The Hernando Beach Club will host a Jazz Night on the Beach Sept. 2 at the club, 3145 Flamingo Blvd. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with dinner served at 6:30 p.m. The Southern Exposure band will entertain. BROOKSVILLE
All are welcome to play volleyball
The Brooksville Parks and Recreation Department has formed an adult volleyball group. Games will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursdays, starting Sept. 13, at the Jerome Brown Community Center, 99 Jerome Brown Place, off Darby Lane. The cost is $3 to play. All levels of experience are encouraged to join. The group is hoping to create enough interest to form a small league. Call 544-5498.
