All start at 7 p.m. unless noted
Matchup | The skinny |
| East Lake at Ridgewood | This one might be worth regular-season admission. Ridgewood coach Chris Taylor says he will play his starters the whole game against an East Lake team that routinely rolls out talent. |
| Freedom at Zephyrhills, 7:30 p.m. | Bulldogs coach Tom Fisher and the boys have been hard at work all preseason. This could be an audition for junior quarterback Lance Hayes, whom Fisher said is pressing sophomore starter Tyler Guy. Freedom is expected to have a solid season, so we'll see if Zephyrhills can endure the loss of many key players. |
| River Ridge at Lecanto | One things for sure: one of these teams will get its first taste of sweet victory in quite some time. Both went 0-10 last season. (Lecanto won three games in 2005, River Ridge hasn't won a game since 2004.) |
| Central at Dunedin | Another one that will be worth the price of admission. Both teams went 8-2 last season, but both think they have a lot to prove. |
| Gulf at Tarpon Springs | Gulf certainly didn't pick a cream puff to tune up against. Sophomore quarterback Madison Burr will have his hands full against a fast Spongers defense. |
| Bishop McLaughlin at Sunlake | Ladies and gentlemen, meet the Sunlake Seahawks. Sunlake athletic director Matt McDermott said the stadium is up and running so get your tickets while they last. We're not sure about uniforms, but hey, it's a first-year school. Bishop McLaughlin went through preparations and the 22 guys out at Thursday's practice looked fired up. |
| Wiregrass Ranch at Admiral Farragut | Talk about your hard-hitting practices. Ricky Thomas has the Bulls fired up and ready for their first varsity football season. They start tonight on the road and we'll get our first look at quarterback Angel Rodriguez and the "Tasmanian Devil," Malik Moss. Yes, he's related to Washington Redskins receiver Santana Moss. |
| Academy at the Lakes at Indian Rocks Christian | The Wildcats-AATL, if you didn't know, are still getting it together. AATL athletic director Mark Arbet - also the coach - has been buried under a pile of paperwork and practices so he's bound to be excited for a game. The Wildcats get their first taste of varsity football, their first step toward defending their 2006 six-man football title. |
