Phoenix rises past bay area
We drop to No. 13 as a TV market as the Arizona city grows.

Tampa Bay's TV industry lost some of its bragging rights Thursday, as Nielsen Media Research announced a new estimated ranking of the nation's television markets which dropped the area one spot to 13th place. The plunge occurred because the new No. 12, Phoenix, Ariz., grew faster. Phoenix, which moved up the list for the third year in a row, grew by 77,550 households to 1.802-million. All told, Nielsen announced new numbers for 230 markets nationwide during the upcoming 2007-08 season, ranking localities according to the number of households they contain which each have at least one TV set. Tampa Bay ranks as the top market in Florida because Miami, which has a larger population, has more people living in fewer households. One bright spot for local TV stations: because the area still gained 28,160 households, experts don't expect advertising rates to be adversely affected.
