Scott Crespo was 2007 salutatorian at Hernando High School and St. Petersburg Times Male Scholar Athlete of the Year in Hernando County. We talked to him before he heads off to Cornell University to study applied economics and management.

What's on your nightstand?

Exporting America: Why Corporate Greed Is Shipping American Jobs Overseas by Lou Dobbs; How to Win Friends & Influence People by Dale Carnegie; and An Autobiography of a Yogi by Paramahansa Yogananda.

How do you choose books?

I like to read nonfiction, and I see what I read as an immediate benefit to what I'm doing. I chose Lou Dobbs' and Dale Carnegie's because they have to do with my studies. Autobiography of a Yogi is a great book that I like to keep around for spiritual inspiration. I see this as a critical time for me. If you haven't read it, I recommend it.
