St. Petersburg offers a weekend of New Orleans fun

ST. PETERSBURG

St. Peter's Episcopal Cathedral will hold a New Orleans-style weekend Sept. 8-9.

The weekend begins at 6 p.m. Sept. 8 with a gumbo dinner, jazz and an update on Louisiana's recovery.

The next day, New Orleans jazz band Some Like It Hot will play traditional jazz at the 10:30 a.m. service. The weekend ends with the Come As You Are Celtic service at 6 p.m. and a shared dinner. Dinner and jazz will cost $15. Call 727 822-4173 or go to www.spcathedral.com.

ST. PETERSBURG

First Unity to join in World Day of Prayer

First Unity Church will participate in the 14th annual World Day of Prayer with a prayer and healing service, 7 p.m. Sept. 12, 460 46th Ave. N, St. Petersburg.

The service will include peace prayers from around the globe read by the church's youth, as well as inspirational music by Colorado duo Devotion, meditation by Deeksha teacher Michael Milner and optional hands-on healing.

LARGO

Musical theater workshop planned

First Baptist Church of Indian Rocks, 12685 Ulmerton Road, Largo, and Stages Productions will present a Christian musical theater workshop, AMERIKIDS, a patriotic musical for grades 2 to 6. The workshop will run from Sept. 4-7, and Sept. 10-14, from 3 to 5:30 p.m. in the fellowship center. One performance will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 14.
