Lang School preceded Hudson
By Jeff Miller, West Pasco Historical Society
Published August 27, 2007
Hudson had one of the earliest schools in western Pasco County, although Hudson was then called the Lang settlement and was still part of Hernando County. The Lang School was in operation by 1877. The exact date the school was established is unknown because earlier Hernando County school records were lost in a courthouse fire that year.
Shoes were optional at the Hudson School, although notice that one shoeless boy is wearing a tie.
Shown here:

Middle row: Leslie Knowles, Essie Knowles (Hamilton), Linnie Gomas, Birdie Daniels, Reba Overton, Jennie Edwards (Sheldon and Keller), Emma Knowles (Brady) and unknown.

Leslie and Essie Knowles were twins born at Hudson on Aug. 2, 1899.
Jennie Edwards (with the ribbon in her hair) later became a teacher. She began her teaching career as Mrs. Sheldon around 1917 but was known to most of her students as Mrs. Keller. She taught at the Elfers School and later at Pierce Grammar School and Richey Elementary School. She died in 1994.
