Today's Letters: Sheriff should budget better
By LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published August 27, 2007
I am really disenchanted with hearing about the sheriff's budget woes. He should receive the exact dollar amount he received last year - and not a penny more.
There are many of us who rely on tax dollars for funding at our jobs as well and we are facing huge budget cuts! Most teachers, myself included, would be thrilled to hear that the school system will be receiving more money.
Many of us will have to make do with less. So count your blessings, and not your budget, sheriff. It could be worse.

Let's work to keep waterways clean
I moved to Hudson in August 2006 to retire to the water and a warmer climate away from the cold winters of New York. I lived in Dutchess County on the Hudson River and dumping there was not taken lightly.
My grandchildren were here to visit last week in the 90-degree heat and could not use the water at Hudson Beach because of fecal bacteria in the water. This is not the only beach where this happens. This hurts the economy and the tax revenue. This is almost a weekly item in the newspapers, but nothing is ever done about it.
Let's wake up, Hudson, and do something about it. I love it here, and I don't want to move back. The source of the bacteria may be houses, boats, who knows? But it has to stop and I am willing to help in any way I can.

Stop paving over Pasco County
It seems to me that stormwater fees would not be necessary if the County Commission would stop paving over all of Pasco County! It doesn't help to lower taxes if more and more fees take over.
With all the building of new homes, condos, malls, etc., we now have a budget shortfall. So much for bringing in more taxes! Why don't developers buy up some of the existing homes that are going into foreclosure in west Pasco and leave some wetlands to absorb water for the Floridan Aquifer.

A personal note to generator thief
To the person or persons who stole my generator out of my garage on Second Isle, Leisure Beach in Hudson, in broad daylight: I did not notice when it happened several weeks ago.
I am not a religious person, but I started praying that something bad happens to you and to your parents for raising a thief. I am an 80-year-old Korean War veteran on a fixed income.
By the way, enjoy the generator, you forgot the adaptor. It was inside the house.
