SANTA MONICA, Calif. - Owen Wilson was reported in good condition Monday, a day after he was taken from his home by ambulance, a hospital spokeswoman said.

"I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time," the 38-year-old Wedding Crashers actor said in a statement released through publicist Ina Treciokas.

No further comments were expected, she said.

Wilson was at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, said hospital spokeswoman Cynthia Harding. He was initially taken to St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica.

He "is here in good condition," Harding said.

No official statement was released on why Wilson was hospitalized. Star magazine reported that he had attempted suicide by slicing his left wrist and taking an undetermined number of unidentified pills.

He was found by a family member, Star said. Police and an ambulance responded to a 911 call around noon Pacific time Sunday, Star and People magazine said.

A neighbor said he saw a police car, a fire truck and an ambulance outside the actor's gated house around noon Sunday.

"These guys were kind of taking their time taking a stretcher out of the ambulance. Then they went into the house," said Geoffry White, 61, who lives across the street.

Santa Monica Fire Battalion Chief Jose Torres said Monday that the department responded to a call involving Wilson. He wouldn't comment on Wilson's injuries or condition, citing federal privacy laws.

Wilson's actor-screenwriter brothers, Luke and Andrew, and his parents were at Cedars-Sinai on Sunday night, People magazine reported.

Owen Wilson, whose movies also include You, Me and Dupree and The Royal Tenenbaums, had been filming the comedy Tropic Thunder, which is being directed by his friend and Zoolander director/co-star Ben Stiller. It's about a group of actors filming a big-budget war movie who, through a series of freak occurrences, are forced to become the soldiers they're portraying, according to the movie Web site IMDB.com.

Wilson's next movie in theaters is next month'sThe Darjeeling Limited.

Wilson, who is single, was in a high-profile relationship with You, Me and Dupree co-star Kate Hudson until they broke up in May.
