Become an expert on lawns and landscapes

Urban horticulture agent Jim Moll will conduct a training series, "Lawn and Landscape Expert Training," from 8:30 a.m. to noon Thursdays, Oct. 4-25, at the Hernando County Cooperative Extension Service, 19490 Oliver St.
The cost is $20, which covers the course materials and refreshments. Attendance at all four classes is required to receive a certificate.
Registration and payment are required by Sept. 28. Space is limited; registration will be accepted on a first-come, first-paid basis.

Gore's film on global warming at library
The Hernando County Green Party will show Al Gore's film An Inconvenient Truth, at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Spring Hill Branch/Harold G. Zopp Memorial Library, 9220 Spring Hill Drive.
After the film, there will be a round table discussion with representatives of the environmental community who will offer some positive steps that folks can do to combat the effects of global warming.

County panel to review code compliance lists
A Hernando County Development Services Code Compliance Review meeting will at 9 a.m. Sept. 6 at the Hernando County Engineering Department, 1525 E Jefferson St.
Items on the agenda to be discussed include: Aron Storage on Thurston Street, County Line Nursery, Family Dollar Store on County Line Road, Fellowship Hall First Baptist Church on Pinehurst Drive, Little Village Child Care/Pre-School on County Line Road, Rinker Cement Plant Warehouse on Cement Plant Road; Shoppes of Spring Hill Phase I for Retail "H" and Phase I for Kohl's on Aerial Way; and Tyco Machine on Ponce de Leon Boulevard.
Another Code Compliance Review meeting is scheduled for Sept. 20. Those wishing to add comments for that meeting must do so by Sept. 7.

Group to demonstrate against Iraq war
The NatureCoast Coalition for Peace and Justice will conduct an anti-war demonstration from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday in front of the Spring Hill Waterfall at Commercial Way and Spring Hill Drive.
The group will demonstrate against the Iraq war, as well as the threat of the U.S. invading or bombing Iran over nuclear weapon fears. For information, call Brian at 686-9936.

Volunteers needed for Halloween Harvest fest
The Hernando County Parks and Recreation Department is in need of volunteers to help with the Halloween Harvest Festival from 5 to 10:30 p.m. Oct. 26 at the Hernando County Fairgrounds, 6436 S Broad St.
Those interested can help with games, hay rides, judging and coordinating contests, including the pet masquerade, costume contest and pumpkin-carving contest.
